WordPress Installation on a Wamp Server

I am a web developer from the Lansing Area of Michigan. I have found that more and more people are using WordPress as a platform not just for blog sites but for personal sites, professional sites, e-commerce sites, and many more. In my day to day life I code in WordPress probably at least half of it. One of the things that I have found that helps me with WordPress is to have a local development server that I can develop on. I have found that most of my development comes first from a Wamp server. This is also known as a Windows Apache MySQL PHP server. This post is to show everyone how to install a Wamp server with WordPress on it so that you can have a local development environment. I am going to show you how to do this in just 5 easy steps.

1) Well so of the first things that you need is to download the WAMP server software and you can do that here WAMP.
2) After you download this now you should install it I would install it to the directory that is specifies which is C:/wamp.
3) After you have done this now you will have to download the newest WordPress package. At this current time it is WordPress 2.7.1. When you get this it will be in a .zip file. Extract this to the folder C:/wamp/www. All of the files will come in a folder called WordPress you can either remove them from the folder and put them one directory higher or you can leave them. I would recommend leaving them just in case you want to put some more sites in the www directory.
4) After that you have to open up the wamp server and go to phpMyAdmin. In order to do this you have to left double click on the wamp icon on your desktop and this will open up a icon in the lower right hand corner. Left click on that icon and select phpMyAdmin. Once the phpMyAdmin window is open there will be a field for creating a database. Put in a name and push create, you can name it what ever you want.
5) Well this is the last step all you have to do is open a browser and type in localhost/wordpress if you left it in the WordPress folder and if not it will just be localhost/whatever folder you put it in. This will bring up a window that asks you for all of your information. You will have to provide the database information. Your database user name will be root and password will be blank, unless you have change them. After giving the information that they ask for it will install automatically.

And that is it now you have a Wamp WordPress Server. Somethings that you might need to know is that when you want to use the Wamp Server you have to double click the wamp icon on your desktop. The Wamp server will not start up automatically. Thank You to all the readers and keep on developing. If you have any questions just leave me a comment or go to my contact page most of the time I will respond quick.

I strongly recommend that you turn the No Follow off in your comment section. I’ll watch Google Webmaster Tools, and if the links don’t show up after a couple of weeks — I won’t go back to that blog again. Another suggestion: you should have a Top Commentator widget installed. Do Follow and Top Commentator will ensure that you have a successful blog with lots of readers!
